Tharoor slams BCCI selection squad for not picking Sanju Samson for Sri Lanka tour

Thiruvananthapuram: Not the first time that senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament from Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor has been critical for allegedly side-lining Sanju Samson, the batsman-wicketkeeper from Kerala from international cricket matches. This time around Tharoor raised his ‘concern’ in his latest tweet.

Netizens were also seen criticising the decision of the BCCI. A large number of fans from Kerala came in support of Samson, the batsman-wicket-keeper who had a promising season over the past one year in T20 cricket.

Shashi Tharoor in his latest tweet has expressed astonishment in the selector’s choices. In a brief tweet, Tharoor said “Interesting squad selection for India’s tour of Sri Lanka this month. @Iam Sanjusamson who hit a century in his last ODI, has not been picked for the ODIs, while @IamabhiSharma4, who hit a T20I century in the #INDvsZIM series has not been picked at all. Rarely has success in India colours mattered so little to the selectors! Good luck to the team anyway. #INDvsSL.

In line with Shashi Tharoor, numerous cricket fans, especially from Kerala was seen raising their objection towards the selectors decision to omit Sanju Samson for the team list that was announced on Thursday.

Few of the comments are:

1) @Sunil kumar 21: “The BCCI has been side-lining Sanju for a long time. High time Sanju given his due.

2) @Sharath 14: “Sanju playing good cricket. Batsman deserves better”.

Earlier too Tharoor has expressed his concerns over the omission of Sanju Samson in India’s T20 series against Australia during December 2023. At that point of time Tharoor slammed the BCCI selectors for excluding Sanju Samson and Yuzvendra Chahal. Back then, Tharoor had opined that Samson shouldn’t just have been picked but also made the captain of the team in the absence of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul.

“This is truly inexplicable. @IamSanjuSamson should have not just been selected, he should have led the side in the absence of all the seniors. His captaincy experience with Kerala and @rajasthanroyals is more current than SKY’s. Our selectors need to explain themselves to the cricket-loving public. And why no @yuzi_chahal either?,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter) back in December 2023.

In 2023 December, Shashi Tharoor has made his objection clear over the exclusion of Sanju Samson and Yuzvendra Chahal for dropping their names in the T20 series against Australia  Kerala States News India: Top News India, States News, States News Headlines, Online State News India, State Politics news
