New Delhi: With more than half of the Paris Olympics 2024 already gone by, India will finally start their wrestling campaign at the marquee event on Monday. It will be starting with the women’s freestyle wrestling where Nisha Dahiya will compete in the 68kg category. The Haryana girl is among the six-member Indian wrestling contingent who will compete at the 2024 Summer Games, eyeing a medal for the nation in their respective categories.
The wrestling bouts will be played at the Champ de Mars Arena in the French capital and this is the 21st edition of the Games, where Indian wrestlers are featuring in. Back at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, India was represented by seven wrestlers where Bajrang Punia and Ravi Dahiya shone for the nation. It is highly noteworthy that in the Paris Olympics, only six wrestlers will be bearing India’s flag out of which five are women.
Aman Sehrawat is the only male representative who will compete in the 57kg category. Out of the five female wrestlers, Nisha Dahiya will begin her campaign on Monday followed by star wrestler Vinesh Phogat on Tuesday, Antim Panghal on Wednesday, Anshu Malik on Thursday, and Reetika Hooda on Saturday. Former India wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt has shown his faith in the six-member contingent saying that he is expecting at least two medals from them.
