New Delhi: India have been dealt with twin injury blows ahead of the 2nd T20I in the ongoing T20I series against England at home. While all-rounder Nitish Reddy has been ruled out of the remainder of the five-match series due to a side strain, batter Rinku Singh is set to miss the 2nd and 3rd T20Is due to lower back spasms. BCCI on Saturday confirmed that Rinku will miss India’s next two matches against the visitors.
Left-arm all-rounder Shivam Dube has been roped in as a replacement for Rinku and Nitish has been replaced by all-rounder Ramandeep Singh. Rinku suffered a lower back spasm while fielding during the 1st T20I against England at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Rinku was not required to bat in the game as India won the game comfortably by seven wickets after a stunning 34-ball 79 from opener Abhishek Sharma.
Meanwhile, Nitish suffered a side strain during India’s training session in Chennai ahead of the 2nd T20I between the two teams which is set to be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday, January 25. Nitish will be heading to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for further management of his recovery process.
Riku, meanwhile, is set to remain with the squad but will not be taking part in the next two matches of the ongoing series with Dube replacing him in the squad. It remains to be seen if Dube will walk straightaway into the playing XI in the 2nd T20I against England on Saturday as he also offers all-round ability with his bowling.
“Rinku Singh sustained a low back spasm while fielding in the 1st T201 against England on 22nd January. He is progressing well and the BCCI medical team is monitoring him closely. He is ruled out of the 2nd and 3rd games of the ongoing 5-match T20I series,” read a statement from BCCI.
