Arsenal on brink of historic English top-flight goal record after West Ham win

New Delhi: Arsenal made history when they defeated West Ham 5-2 in an exciting Premier League match on Saturday. This thrilling victory not only extended their unbeaten run but also saw them tie a remarkable English top-flight record for scoring five goals in an away match.

The Gunners now share the record for the most away games with five or more goals in a single calendar year, a feat previously achieved by Sunderland in 1892 and Manchester City in 1937. The win at the London Stadium was Arsenal’s fifth away game in 2024 where they scored five goals showing the attacking firepower that has been a hallmark of Mikel Arteta’s side this season.

The match was full of drama with goals coming thick and fast including a brilliant brace from the ever-dangerous Bukayo Saka. The win not only gave Arsenal three crucial points but also added to their growing list of impressive performances away from home.

The Gunner’s triumph over the Hammers was the second time they struck five this season. Arsenal last put five past Sporting CP just four days before repeating the feat against West Ham. Last season also Arsenal recorded back-to-back away games with at least five goals. In February they won 6-0 over West Ham and a 5-0 victory over Burnley. After one game of only scoring four goals the Gunners beat Sheffield United side 6-0 at Bramall Lane.

Can Arsenal break the record outright?

Arsenal’s five-goal outings have been a consistent feature of their 2024 campaign. This latest win at West Ham sees them joining the exclusive club of teams who have managed such a feat in the top flight of English football Sunderland and Manchester City but now the Gunners have the chance to claim it outright.

With two more away games remaining before the end of the year, Arsenal still have the opportunity to break the record. Their next away game is against Fulham on December 8, followed by a short trip to Crystal Palace on December 21. If they manage to score another five goals in either of these matches they will set a new benchmark for away goal-scoring record in the Premier League history.

Under Arteta’s guidance, Arsenal have become a potent attacking force and their free-flowing style of play has led them to exciting victories especially away from home. The team’s ability to find the back of the net with such regularity has been a key factor in their title challenge this season.

As Arsenal continue to push for the top spot in the Premier League their attacking prowess will be crucial and the potential to set a new record for most five-goal away games in a calendar year is a testament to their offensive strength. Fans will be watching eagerly as the Gunners look to break this historic record in their upcoming matches.

Arsenal moves closer to a historic English top-flight goal record after a dominant away win over West Ham. Two crucial games remain to make history.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
