New Delhi: Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri took a hilarious dig at England batter Harry Brook after he was dismissed by India spinner Varun Chakaravarthy in the 2nd T20I between the two sides at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday, January 25. Gavaskar and Shastri roasted Brook over his comments regarding smog during the 1st T20I in Kolkata where England suffered a 7-wicket thrashing at the hands of the hosts.

Brook was once again bamboozled by Chakaravarthy, who got the better of him in the series opener in Kolkata. The mystery spinner produced another exceptional delivery to clean up Brook in his very first over in the game. The ball pitched slightly outside off before turning sharply to pierce the gap between Brook’s bat and the pad to rattle his stumps. The England batter was dismissed cheaply again on just 13 off 8 balls.

“Once again, it’s Varun Chakravarthy. You don’t need the smog. This has sneaked through and it’s crashed into the stumps,” Shastri said on commentary after Chakaravarthy got rid of Brook for the second time in the two T20Is. Gavaskar joined the bandwagon as he too took a hilarious dig on the England batter over his ‘smog’ claim for the Kolkata T20I.

“You said it, you said it. The light is clearer here in Chennai. There was some smog in the Eden Gardens Kolkata. No smog here, had no idea where the ball was going, hitting the top of the off-stop. Harry Brook gone for 13, 3 down 59. And yes, I think Varun Chakravarthy is looking at him, maybe asking, look, is there any smoke there,” Gavaskar said on air.

What did Harry Brook say about smog in Kolkata?

It all started after Brook made a bizarre claim while explaining his struggles in the 1st T20I against India at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Brook said it was hard to pick Chakaravarthy at the Eden Gardens due to smog at the stadium.

“With the smog the other night, it was a lot harder to pick. Hopefully, the air is a bit clearer here and we can see the ball a bit easier. Facing spin in T20 cricket is probably the hardest thing in the game, especially because I always get out trying to absolutely smack it,” Brook said in the pre-match presser ahead of the 2nd T20I.
