New Delhi: The Ministry of Railways has commenced work on a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to enhance connectivity at Noida International Airport by linking it to the Delhi-Howrah and Delhi-Mumbai rail routes. This initiative aims to improve accessibility and convenience for passengers and cargo alike.
The planned 61-kilometer corridor will stretch from Rundhi station near Palwal in Haryana to Chola station in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, passing through the Noida International Airport, reports stated. This track will ensure seamless connectivity, enabling easier access to the airport from major cities like Delhi, Howrah, and Mumbai. The corridor will include underground connectivity to the airport’s Ground Transportation Centre (GTC), ensuring smooth and efficient transit for passengers.
During a recent meeting at the airport site, officials from the Ministry of Railways and the airport authority discussed various aspects of laying the track. Several proposals were put forward regarding the scheduled rail route, with a particular emphasis on maximizing the route’s benefits for the population. One significant proposal included constructing separate tracks for air cargo, which would facilitate uninterrupted import and export of goods. The establishment of warehouses and logistics hubs in the 55 villages of Bulandshahr falling under the notified area of the authority is also part of this comprehensive plan.
Jewar Airport station, situated on this railway route, is proposed to be an underground facility, integrated with the passenger terminal of the airport. This design will allow passengers to move effortlessly between the railway station and the airport terminal via elevators, lifts, or stairs. The entire complex will be air-conditioned, ensuring comfort and convenience for travelers. In addition, rapid rail and metro train stations will be constructed adjacent to this underground station, featuring a 10-kilometer-long underground track for enhanced connectivity.
The strategic connectivity plan aims to significantly improve access to Noida International Airport, making it a crucial hub in the region. By linking it with major rail routes and providing specialized cargo facilities, this project is poised to boost both passenger convenience and cargo efficiency. The Ministry of Railways’ accelerated efforts in revising the DPR and pushing forward with the project highlight its commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure and fostering regional development.
