New Delhi: Team India star Rinku Singh has witnessed a remarkable rise in the last couple of years and has gone from strength to strength in his international and Indian Premier League (IPL) career. Rinku has become a vital cog in the KKR batting line-up after enjoying a brilliant season in IPL 2023 and has also established his credentials as a finisher for India in T20Is.
Rinku enjoyed a stellar campaign in IPL 2023 where he played numerous vital cameos for KKR to finish the season with 474 runs from 14 matches. His heroics helped him earn his maiden India cap last year and there has been no looking back for the left-hander, who continues to make the most of the opportunities that have been coming his way.
One of the longest-serving players for the franchise, Rinku is an integral member of the KKR squad. However, if the three-time champions decide to release him ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction, Rinku wants to play for Virat Kohli-starrer Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
“RCB, because Virat Kohli is there,” Rinku told Sports Tak during an interview when asked which team he would prefer to join if KKR release him ahead of the IPL mega auction. Rinku shares a great bond with Kohli despite having played only one series with the senior batter for Team India. The KKR star was also seen asking Kohli for his bat during the IPL 2024 earlier this year.
Rinku Singh’s IPL career
Rinku has spent seven seasons with KKR already and has been backed extensively by the franchise. KKR bought Rinku for Rs 80 lakh in the IPL 2018 auction and he was re-signed by the franchise for Rs 55 lakh ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.
The left-hander has only played for KKR in his IPL career so far and has amassed 893 runs in 45 matches for the 3-time champions at an average of 30.79 and an impressive strike rate of over 143.
Rinku Singh opens up on Duleep Trophy snub
Rinku also opened up on being snubbed from the Duleep Trophy squads ahead of India’s Test series against Bangladesh. Many expected the left-hander to feature in one of the 4 squads but he failed to make the cut. Rinku blamed his ordinary performances in the domestic circuit for the snub and expressed optimism that he will find a place in one of the squads soon.
“Maine itna acha kara nahi hai. Zyada matches bhi nahi khele the Ranji Trophy ke, 2-3 matches he khele the aur acha kara bhi nahi tha, isliye select nahi hua. Agle matches honge toh, hopefully naam aa jaye mera (I didn’t do well. I didn’t even play a lot of matches in the Ranji Trophy, I played only 2-3 matches and didn’t do well that’s why I wasn’t selected. I will hopefully get selected in the next round of matches),” said Rinku.
Team India star Rinku Singh recently revealed which IPL team he would prefer to join if he is released by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
