New Delhi: Novak Djokovic turned in style to book his place in the last four of the Miami Open with an impressive 6-3, 7-6(7/4) win over American Sebastian Korda. With this triumph, the 37-year-old became the oldest man to reach a Masters 1000 semi-final.
Djokovic is definitely aging like a fine wine. At 37 years and 10 months in the series’ history, he became the oldest ATP Masters 1000 semi-finalist since 1990, surpassing Roger Federer, who reached the last four in Indian Wells and Miami at 37 years and seven months back in 2019.
The 24 Grand Slam Champion made a strong start against Korda, breaking early to get a first-set advantage that he never let slip, but Korda showed brilliant resilience in the second set, leading by 3-0. But Djoko made a comeback and took it to the tiebreaker to seal the victory with a powerful ace.

Djokovic now leads Korda 2-0 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series. Their previous encounter in the 2023 Adelaide final also saw the Serbian storm back when Korda held the championship point to seal the victory.
Novak’s serve played a huge role in his comeback, which he himself admitted in the post-match presentation. He said, Best serving performance for me so far.” He added, “I was quite nervous because you never know what comes from Korda – he’s so aggressive and talented.”

Djoko also said that he was on the back foot and patiently waited for Korda to make an error rather than dictating from the back of the court. He said he was able to get the first serve in the crucial moments, but this was a tense match.
What next?
Djokovic will continue to chase for a record-breaking seventh title in South Florida and a 100th tour level trophy as he faces 14th seed Grigor Dimitrov in the semis. He leads Dimitrov by 12-1 in their Lexus Head2Head series. The fourth seed is leading by 20-1 in Miami after reaching quarter-finals with his only loss to his current coach Andy Murray back in 2009 final.
