Bomb threat at Taj West End Hotel in Bengaluru disrupts IPL governing council meeting

New Delhi: Taj West End Hotel in Bengaluru, which was scheduled to host the IPL Governing Council (GC) meeting on Saturday morning, received a bomb threat resulting in the disruption of the meeting. The GC meeting, which was supposed to take place at 11.30 AM on September 28, got delayed by at least seven hours as a precautionary measure.

As per a report in Mykhel.com, the threat was sent via an email which sparked a security alert, leading to panic and a full search of the premises by the local authorities. After a thorough investigation, none of the dangerous or suspicious objects were found at the Taj West End hotel, and the meeting eventually took place later in the day.

Key figures included in GC meet

The IPL Governing Council meeting includes some of the key figures such as BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal and BCCI Treasurer Ashish Shelar. All the stakeholders were supposed to discusses various crucial topics related to the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league season, which would have been discussed in the meeting which took place later on.

The most important of the agendas for the IPL GC included the discussions on the IPL 2025 retention rules and the idea behind how to organise a mega auction which is slated to be held in November 2024. According to multiple media reports, all the franchises are expected to be permitted to retain a minimum of five players, with a grim possibility of extending that number to six.

Meanwhile, the inclusion of Right to Match (RTM) cards remains uncertain, with conflicting reports suggesting differing possibilities.
