Novak Djokovic trains with coach Andy Murray as he chases record 25th Grand Slam title

New Delhi:24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic trained for the first time with new coach Andy Murray in Melbourne on Tuesday ahead of the start of the Australian Open 2025, the first Grand Slam of the year. Djokovic was seen practising with his long-time rival and good friend Murray, who retired from professional tennis last year.

The Serbian ace, who has already equalled Margaret Court’s all-time record with 24 Grand Slam titles, will be gunning for a record 11th Australian Open crown and a historic 25th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open 2025. Despite not having won a single Grand Slam in 2024, Djokovic will start the tournament as a favourite given his enviable record at the Australian Open.

Djokovic added Murray to his coaching team in November last year after the British tennis great announced his retirement from professional tennis. Djokovic and Murray enjoyed some fearsome battles on the court but remained great friends off it. Pictures and videos of Djokovic training with Murray in Melbourne surfaced on social media on Wednesday.

In the video shared by the Australian Open’s official handle, Murray can be spotted watching closely as Djokovic trains at the Melbourne Park. Murray was roped in by Djokovic in his coaching team after the Serbian great parted ways with his long-time coach Goran Ivanisevic. Interestingly, both Djokovic and Murray are of the same age – 37.

Djokovic, who is just 4 months shy of turning 38, will become the oldest Grand Slam winner in the open era if he manages to forge a successful title-winning run at the Australian Open. The 37-year-old will also surpass Court to become the 1st player in tennis history to win as many as 25 Grand Slam titles.
