New Delhi: Indian wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan turned heads as he made a strong comeback in red-ball cricket by hitting a century in the Jharkhand vs Madhya Pradesh Buchi Babu Trophy 2024 clash on Friday. The century came off 86 deliveries as skipper Kishan stunningly used just a single hand to push the delivery out and over the boundary ropes to complete his hundred at the India Cements Ltd. Ground in Sankar Nagar, Tirunelveli.
Responding to Madhya Pradesh’s 225 on the second day of the match, Jharkhand looked in a bit of trouble as no top-order batter could capitalise on his innings, going back to the pavilion in either 20s or 30s. With three wickets down, Kishan took the crease, hoping to dig his team out of the grave problem and effectively did so as he went on to smash a hundred – 114 runs coming off 107 balls laced with five fours and 10 sixes as he departed as the sixth scalp.
It is noteworthy that as he neared his century, he reached the mark in some fashion. Announcing his comeback, he hit two sixes in a row off the 85th and the 86th ball as he rose from 92 to 104. His second six was all the more pleasing as it came off just one hand. Kishan tried to go inside out and while trying to do so, connected the ball single-handedly as the ball sailed all over the ropes.

Match as it stands
Despite Kishan’s departure, the work was already done for Jharkhand as they wrapped the Day 2 proceedings on 277-7 (84 overs) with Vivekanand Tiwary being the final wicket of the day. Kishan partnered with Aditya Singh for 109 runs for the fourth wicket which was the backbone of their response on the day. Madhya Pradesh will aim to bundle out Jharkhand as soon as possible on the next day to not concede the lead anymore and get back to batting to post a hefty target.
But for Kishan, the innings came at the right moment as he surely would have been noticed by the Indian selectors who will finalise the Team India squads for the upcoming Bangladesh home series consisting of two Tests and three T20Is.
