The report further mentions that the USOPC staff member was put on administrative leave pending an internal inquiry and thorough investigation. He further emphasised on the fact that sexual abuse does not have any place in their community.

Further details in the AP report reveal that Colliander, the prime accused in the case, began coaching the athlete when she was 15 years of age and his misconduct started from then only. He gave her a lot of attention and used to touch her inappropriately. Things started to escalate in the next few years as the hugs and inappropriate touch converted to kissing, sexual fondling and oral sex till the time she turned 18.

Like in all cases, the victim begged the accused to stop but he ignored and even warned her against telling anyone else he would ruin her biathlon career. Accused Colliander was informed few years back that the athlete was suffering from depression and post-traumatic stress disorder and he should stop coaching her but he still didn’t agree and continued with his misconduct till the time she was forced to attempt suicide.
