New Delhi: India’s strong reply to Pakistan for the horrific Pahalgam attack came early Wednesday when the Indian Military forces struck nine terrorist camps in the neighbouring country. The Indian armed forces launched missile attacks against Pakistan on Wednesday morning targetting terrorist safe havens and hideouts in mainland Pakistan and the Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
In the aftermath of “Operation Sindoor”, more than 200 flights in India have been cancelled, and at least 18 airports have been temporarily shut down for operations.
According to sources, 18 airports, including Srinagar, Leh, Jammu, Amritsar, Pathankot, Chandigarh, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Shimla, Dharamshala and Jamnagar. The airports that have been instructed to shut down are in the northern and western parts of the country.
The restrictions in Indian airspace are set to impact the travel plans of several Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises, especially those who are scheduled to play in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh.
Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals are already in Dharamsala for their clash on Thursday, May 8.
Mumbai Indians’ travel plans set to take a hit
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians were scheduled to travel to the picturesque town nestled in the lap of the Himalayas for their match on Sunday, May 11.
As of now, the matches are scheduled to go ahead as planned, but it could all change if a government directive is issued.
Since Dharamsala, Chandigarh and Amritsar have shut down operations, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) will now have to come up with a new travel plan to accommodate the teams as per the fixtures. The nearest operational airport to Dharamsala is New Delhi, but that would mean a long and hectic road journey for the players.
A BCCI official told the Times of India that the Board is waiting for the government advisory before making any changes.
Mumbai Indian’s travel plans could see changes ahead of the Sunday fixture. The five-time champions are currently at their home base in Mumbai following their clash against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, May 6.
With Dharamsala set to host two fixtures in the space of four days, the BCCI, taking into account the current situation of the Indian airspace, must be scrambling to get alternate venues in readiness.
