New Delhi: Indian shooter Sarabjot Singh has decided to turn down a job offer from the Haryana government after bagging a bronze medal for India at the Paris Olympics 2024. Sarabjot shone at his maiden Olympic campaign in Paris as he combined with Manu Bhaker to win a bronze medal in the mixed team 10m air pistol event.
Sarabjot and Manu became the first Indian pair to win a mixed-team medal in shooting for India at the Olympics. It was India’s second medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 after Manu clinched a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event. Sarabjot also came close to qualifying for the final in the men’s 10m air pistol event but ended up missing out.
On his return home, the shooter was felicitated by the Haryana government and was offered a government job as a token of appreciation. However, Sarabjot decided to gracefully reject the offer stating that he wants to continue focusing on his game and continue his quest for a gold medal at the LA Olympics 2028.
Sarabjot was offered the position of Deputy Director in the Sports Department by the Haryana government. The ace shooter revealed his family has also been asking him to take up a decent job, but he only wants to prioritise his shooting career.
“The job is good, but I will not take it right now. I want to focus on my shooting first,” Sarabjot told reporters.
“My family has also been asking me to get a decent job, but I want to pursue shooting. I don’t want to go against the decisions that I have made, so I cannot take a job right now,” he added.

After returning with a bronze medal from his debut campaign at the Paris Games, Sarabjot has already shifted attention to prepare for the next edition of the showpiece event in 2028. Sarabjot said he wants to shoot for gold at the LA Olympics and is focused on pursuing his dream.
“I am yet to achieve my main goal. Hopefully, I will complete my main goal in 2028. I used to write in my personal diary that I will give my personal best in Paris. However, I am yet to give my personal best. I want to shoot for gold in 2028,” the shooter was quoted as saying by India Today.
India finished with three medals from shooting at the Paris Olympics in 2024. Manu won a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event and followed it up with another bronze medal with Sarabjot in the mixed team 10m air pistol event. Swapnil Kusale won India’s third medal in shooting – a bronze medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions.
