Oyo changes check-in policy for unmarried couples in Meerut, hotels can deny bookings

New Delhi: Oyo, the travel booking platform popular among young couples, has updated its check-in policy for unmarried couples at partner hotels in Meerut. Under the new policy, OYO has given its partner hotels the authority to accept or reject bookings from couples based on their discretion, taking into account local societal norms.

The company said that couples would need to provide valid proof of their relationship at check-in, applicable to all reservations, including those made online. According to a report by PTI, these changes will come into effect this year.

“OYO is committed to upholding safe and responsible hospitality practices. While we respect individual freedoms and personal liberty, we also recognise our responsibility to listen to and work with the law enforcement and civil society groups in the micro markets we operate in,” PTI quoted Pawas Sharma, Region Head, OYO North India, as saying.

Policy may be extended

Based on feedback from the ground, the company might extend this policy to additional cities, PTI reported. OYO mentioned that this initiative is part of its efforts to update its image and position itself as a brand offering a safe experience for families, students, business travelers, religious pilgrims, and solo travelers. “We will continue to review this policy and its impact periodically,” Sharma was quoted by PTI as saying.

Crackdown on unruly establishments

OYO has launched nationwide initiatives focused on safe hospitality in partnership with the police and its hotel partners. The company said that it is blacklisting hotels accused of promoting immoral activities and taking action against unauthorised establishments using OYO’s branding.

OYO’s new policy grants partner hotels the discretion to approve or deny bookings from couples, considering local societal norms. Additionally, couples are required to present valid proof of their relationship at check-in, regardless of whether the reservation was made online or offline.  Business Business News – Personal Finance News, Share Market News, BSE/NSE News, Stock Exchange News Today
