Lahore: In a shocking incident in Lahore, Pakistan, a children’s hospital has been accused of swapping a sick, four-day-old baby boy with a baby girl who had already died.
The family of the baby boy have filed an FIR and a thorough investigation in the case is underway.
Hospital Swaps Sick Baby Boy with Dead Baby Girl
A four-day-old baby boy was admitted to a children’s day hospital in Pakistan‘s Lahore because he was unwell. During treatment, the baby was declared dead by the doctors and his body was also handed over to the family.
When the family took the baby boy for burial they realised that it wasn’t their son but a baby girl. They immediately went back to the hospital and claimed that they had brought in their son and not a girl.
The father of the child launched a formal complaint and also urged the police to lodge a case against the management and the concerned doctors of the children’s hospital.
Inquiry Launched, Investigation Underway
The hospital authorities launched an inquiry and according to an official, the authorities found that the baby boy had gone ‘missing’.
The country’s Punjab Health Department also responded to the incident; an inquiry committee was formed with three senior doctors. The team was expected to investigate properly and then submit a detailed report.
The committee’s report said that the concerned staff including doctors, nurses and paramedics were questioned, CCTV footages were examined and it was the family, who against medical advice, had taken away the boy from the hospital.
The report also mentioned how the condition of the baby boy was critical and that the hospital recommended him to be shifted to a high-dependency unit where he could be put on ventilator support. However, parents refused further treatment and left after signing the Leave against Medical Advice form.
Nowhere in the report is it mentioned that the baby was allegedly swapped with a baby girl. An FIR has also been lodged by the police with respect to the alleged exchange of babies. Investigation is still underway.
