Pakistan: Pakistan’s Sindh province experienced scorching temperatures exceeding 52º Celsius on Monday, bringing the region perilously close to its record high. Mohenjo Daro, a historic town in Sindh, bore the brunt of the heatwave, with temperatures soaring to a staggering 52.2º Celsius (126 F) in the past 24 hours.
Shahid Abbas, a senior official of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, confirmed the unsettling rise in temperatures, underscoring the severity of the situation. This reading marks the highest temperature recorded so far this summer and is just shy of Mohenjo Daro’s record high of 53.5º Celsius (128.3 F), as well as the country’s all-time high of 54º Celsius (129.2 F).
“Pakistan is the fifth most vulnerable country to the impact of climate change. We have witnessed above normal rains, floods,” said Rubina Khursheed Alam, Pakistan PM’s coordinator on climate.
