New Delhi: May 31, 2024, i.e. today is the last day to link PAN with Aadhaar to avoid getting charged with higher tax deduction during the ongoing assessment year. The Income Tax Department issued several reminders appealing to the taxpayers to link their PAN with Aadhaar by May 31 failing which would result in higher tax deduction/ tax collection under Section 206AA and 206CC of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
As per the rules, it is mandatory to link Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar card. The Aadhaar-PAN linking helps in smoothing financial transactions and preventing fraudulent activities.
How to check PAN Aadhaar Linking Status?
Visit Income Tax e-Filing website.
Individuals already having an account, can log in by entering User ID, password, and the captcha.
People who don’t have an account, can create by clicking on the “Register Yourself” option.
After logging in, go to the ‘Profile Settings’ option in the top menu and click on it.
Select ‘Link Aadhaar’ option in the ‘Profile Settings’ drop-down menu.
The user will be directed to the PAN-Aadhaar linking page.
The user will get a form where the individual needs to provide PAN number and Aadhaar number.
Enter all the required details and click on the ‘Submit’ button.
Next comes the verification process. The system will check all the mentioned records and display the PAN-Aadhaar linking status.
If the individual’s PAN and Aadhaar are already linked, a confirmation message will be sent. However, if they are not linked, the system will display the steps that need to be taken to proceed with the linking process.
Checking PAN Aadhaar Linking Status through SMS
To check PAN Aadhaar linking status through SMS using registered mobile number, follow the below-mentioned steps:
Type ‘UIDPAN’ and enter space
Enter the 12-digit Aadhaar number after the space
Enter another space and type the 10-digit PAN
Send the SMS to 567678 or 56161
UIDPAN <Aadhaar number> <PAN number>. After sending the SMS, the user will receive a message indicating the status of PAN Aadhaar linking.
