Paris Paralympics 2024, India’s Day 6 schedule: Avani Lekhara aims for 2nd gold medal

New Delhi: Indian para-athletes enjoyed magnificent outings on Day 5 of the Paris Paralympics 2024 as they added an impressive 8 medals to the country’s tally. India won two gold medals, three silver and three bronze medals in what was a truly memorable day. Sumit Antil defended his gold medal in the men’s javelin throw F64 category with a record throw while Nitesh Kumar bagged his maiden Paralympics gold medal in the men’s singles SL3 badminton event.

Indian para-athletes will be in action across multiple sporting events on Day 6 of the Paris Paralympics on Tuesday and will be looking to add to the country’s medal tally. Para-shooter Avani Lekhara will be aiming to win her second gold medal when she begins her campaign in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 category.

Avani won India’s first gold medal at the Paris Games when she grabbed the top spot on the podium in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 event. India’s Mona Agarwal will also be competing alongside Avani in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 qualification round on Tuesday. The duo will be the only two para-shooters in action for India on Day 6 of the Games.

While Avani has already won a gold medal, Mona bagged a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rife standing SH1 category. Both para-shooters will be hopeful of continuing their stellar run in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 event.

A number of Indian para-athletes will be in action across multiple para-athletics events on Day 6. Mariyappan Thangavelu will be the one to look out for as he will be in action in the men’s high jump T63 final. India’s Shailesh Kumar and Sharad Kumar will also feature in the event alongside Thangavelu. Bhagyashri M Jadhav will be competing in the women’s shot put F34 final while Deepthi Jeevanji will take the field in the women’s 400m T20 final.

Ajeet Singh, Rinku and Sundar Gurjar will be competing in the final of the men’s javelin throw F46 event and will be hoping to return with medals. In para-archery, India’s Pooja will be in action in the women’s individual recurve open event and will hope to make it to the final.
