New Delhi: After clinching the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 3-1 against India, Australia announced their squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 on Monday, January 13. Pat Cummins will continue to lead the reigning ODI world champions. Despite recovering from an injury, Cummins has been named the skipper of the side while Josh Hazlewood, another pacer, struggling with an injury issue has also been included in the 15-man squad

Cummins opted for a break to be with his family after leading Australia to a 3-1 victory in the recently concluded Test series against India. Cricket Australia also confirmed that the pacer is dealing with an injury issue. He will not travel to Sri Lanka for Australia’s two-match Test series against the Island nation but is expected to be fit in time for the Champions Trophy that gets underway next month.

Australia have named a strong 15-man squad for the premier tournament. Matthew Short and Aaron Hardie have been handed fresh call-ups while pacer Nathan Ellis has also been included to bolster the pace attack. Short has been in fine form for the Adelaide Strikers in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 and recently slammed a hundred against Brisbane Heat.

Short has been roped in as a replacement for retired David Warner and is likely to open for Australia alongside Travis Head in the Champions Trophy 2025. Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne will complete Australia’s top order while Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh are the all-rounders in the squad alongside Cummins.

Mitchell Starc will spearhead a strong and experienced pace attack consisting of the likes of Hazlewood Ellis and Cummins with Marsh and Stoinis offering extra pace options. Adam Zampa has been included in the side as the sole specialist spinner and will be crucial to his team’s chances in Pakistan conditions.
