New Delhi: Patanjali will soon start a Fruits and Vegetables Processing Plant in Nagpur. The plant will produce juice, juice concentrate, pulp, paste and puree by processing citrus and tropical fruits and vegetables. The Patanjali Mega Food & Herbal Park in MIHAN (Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport) will commence operations from March 9 in Nagpur.

Known as Orange City, Nagpur has abundance of citrus fruits like orange, kinnow, sweet lime, lemon etc. Keeping this in mind, Patanjali has set up a citrus processing plant in the city. The plant will have the capacity to make frozen juice concentrate by processing 800 tons of fruit daily. This juice is completely natural and no preservatives or sugar is used in it.

Along with this, tropical fruits will also be processed in the plant including 600 tons of amla, 400 tons of mango, 200 tons of guava, 200 tons of papaya, 200 tons of apple, 200 tons of pomegranate, 200 tons of strawberry, 200 tons of plum, 200 tons of pear, 400 tons of tomato, 400 tons of bottle gourd, 400 tons of bitter gourd, 160 tons of carrot, 100 tons of aloe vera on a daily basis to produce juice, juice concentrate, pulp, paste and puree as per global standards. This process of directly processing from the fruit is called primary processing.

Tatra Pack Unit at Nagpur Factory

A Tetra Pack unit will also be set up in the Nagpur factory. Keeping in view the health of consumers, Tetra Pack provides products in the premium segment without using any kind of preservatives or sugar in aesthetic packaging.

This Patanjali plant has another USP, in which by-products are not allowed to go waste. After extracting juice from oranges, its peel is also utilised. Orange peel contains a cold press oil (CPO) which is in great demand in the market. Apart from this, Patanjali is also extracting premium pulp from oranges which is used as raw material in Nagpur Orange Barfi.

Orange oil based aroma and water based aroma essence are also being extracted. Orange peel powder is used to make cosmetics and other valuable products. For this, orange peel is dried and powdered. 

Patanjali flour mill also established

A flour mill has also been set up In Nagpur in which 100 tons of wheat is processed every day and supplied to Patanjali’s biscuit units in Jalna, Andhra and Telangana etc. For this, Patanjali buys wheat directly from the farmers. Traders or FCI are contacted when the demand is high. In the first phase, a commercial manufacturing plant for citrus fruits and tetra packs will be started in the city. So far, 1,000 tons of sweet lime have been processed here. Orange processing work has also been started. Along with this, all the machines for tropical fruits are also being installed.
