New Delhi: It was Punjab Kings (PBKS), the franchise with the highest purse value (Rs. 110.5 crore), who shopped first at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction that took place in Jeddah on November 24 and 25. Arshdeep Singh, whom the franchise released ahead of the auction, was retained by them at the auction with the help of the right-to-match (RTM) option, at a massive amount of Rs. 18 crore.
PBKS started their performance with a bang and continued their stylish run by momentarily making star India batter Shreyas Iyer the costliest-ever pick in IPL history. Iyer was bagged by PBKS for a mind-boggling Rs. 26.75 crore, as the franchise sought a skipper for them. He was soon surpassed by his compatriot Rishabh Pant who went to Lucknow Super Giants for an earth-shattering Rs. 27 crore.
The list of marquee players had 12 names and Punjab already had two with them. They went for another marquee player Yuzvendra Chahal who saw his bids soaring to Rs. 18 crore until PBKS put him in their kitty. Their other top pick was Australian allrounder Marcus Stoinis whom they picked for Rs. 11 crore while South African allrounder Marco Jansen pocketed Rs. 7 crore from them.
Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis, and Azmatullah Omarzai were some other top picks for them at the IPL 2025 mega auction. They spent Rs. 110.15 crore at the auction and filled all the 25 players’ spots, with Rs. 35 lakh still in hand. They have 17 Indian players and eight overseas in their IPL 2025 squad.
