PM Modi lauds junior hockey team after victory against Pakistan in Asia Cup final

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday praised the Indian junior hockey team after they defeated Pakistan by 5-3 in the final of the Asia Cup 2024. PM Modi lauded the team for winning the Junior Asia Cup and said that their unmatched skill, unwavering grit and incredible teamwork have etched this victory into sporting glory. India have previously won the title in 2004, 2008, 2015 and 2023 and this was their record fifth title.

“Proud of our hockey champions! It’s a historic moment for Indian hockey as our Men’s Junior Team wins the Junior Asia Cup 2024 title. Their unmatched skill, unwavering grit and incredible teamwork have etched this win into the annals of sporting glory” PM Modi wrote on X.

Match report

Pakistan took an early lead in the match after Hannan Shahid scored the goal in just three minutes but the Boys in Blue were quick to make a comeback in the match as Araijeet Singh Hundal scored the first goal. Team India upped their tempo in the second quarter and secured a penalty corner in the 18th minute and Araijeet scored another goal with a powerful flick.

One minute later, Dilraj extended India’s lead to 3-1. But Pakistan scored two goals in the 30th and 39th minutes to level the match. After that, Araijeet scored two goals  in the 47th minute and 54th minute to put his team in complete control of the match with a 5-3 lead. Araijeet Singh scored 4 goals while Dilraj also scored one goal to help India win the final match.
