New Delhi: As per the PTI report, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may appoint Jason Gillespie as the all-format head coach if the team does well in the ongoing white-ball tour of Australia.
Rizwan and Co. have already lost the first ODI of the three-match series and will face Australia in the second ODI on Friday, November 8. After the ODI series, Pakistan will also play a three-match T20I series against the Aussies.
PCB shocked with Gary Kirsten’s sudden resignation
The white-ball coach of the Pakistan team, Gary Kisten suddenly resigned from his job just after six months and left the PCB in shock. He joined as the team’s head coach in April 2024 after signing a two-year deal.
His sudden resignation forced the Pakistan board to look for new coaches. As the process of appointing a new coach will take time, Jason Gillespie was asked to coach the team on the Australia tour. Kirsten’s sudden resignation came after the rift with PCB.
The two head coaches of the Pakistan team were removed from the selection panel. As per the reports, Kirsten’s suggestions were not taken into consideration while picking the squad for the ODI and T20I series against Australia.
PCB’s preference is to have Gillespie to also be white-ball head coach
The PCB is working on a plan to appoint Jason Gillespie as the head coach of the team if the team does well in the remaining games. If everything goes well, Gillespie will be the all-format head coach at least until next April.
“For the moment, the Board is working on a plan to appoint Jason Gillespie as all-format head coach instead of advertising for new candidates. If Pakistan performs satisfactorily in the remaining games in Australia, then in all probability, Gillispie would be asked to take over as all formats head coach” a PCB source told PTI on Thursday.
According to the reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may ask the Test-team head coach Jason Gillespie, to take over the all-format coaching role of the team. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
