Pep Guardiola accepts blame after Manchester City’s late loss to Manchester United

New Delhi: Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola is witnessing his club’s dip in performance like never before. City’s string of poor performances came to a head on Sunday when they lost 2-1 to their City rivals Manchester United at home in the closing minutes of the game. This means their string of losses extends to eight games out of eleven.

After lifting the Premier League title for the last four seasons and being one of the most dominating football clubs in Europe, City’s recent form is alarming. They have struggled to maintain consistency, and across the competition, they have managed to win only once. After dropping down to fifth place, with a gap of nine points from the table leader, Liverpool, Guardiola said that their current form is his fault.

During an interaction after losing the Machester derby, the 53-year-old manager said that he was not “good enough.” Guardiola noted, that being the manager of the side, it was his fault that the team wasn’t able to perform at the level that is expected. He further noted that it was on him for not finding the solutions and turning the fortunes around for the club.

Guardiola further noted that there were fewer excuses left for City to blame for their recent poor performances. After leading 3-0 against Feyenoord, City ended up drawing the game, and Guardiola stated that no amount of injuries or scheduling could defend that performance.

Pep Guardiola’s toughest season so far

Guardiola has been with the side for the ninth year, after stints with Barcelona and Bayern Munich and has recently signed a two-year contract extension with Manchester City. The Spanish manager noted that he was always aware that the season was going to be tough. When questioned if his magic was running out, Guardiola noted that he was never the magician.

For his opposite number, Ruben Amorim, it was a good tense but, in the end, a good outing.  United had lost Arsenal and Nottingham before their game against City. City were leading with one goal until the 88th minute. Within a span of two minutes, United were able to put themselves ahead. Many noted that, City’s tactics towards the end was immature and they have simply handed three points that should have been theirs.

Pep Guardiola feels that there is a need to scrutinise their recent performances after losing the Manchester derby in the final two minutes of the game.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
