New Delhi: Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said that he will take a break from coaching after his departure from the club, though he is not sure about when he will retire. The Spaniard signed a two-year contract extension in November, which swells his stay at the club until June 2027. Joining the club in 2016, Guardiola will have been at City for 11 years by that time.

In his illustrious management career, he spent four years with Barcelona as their boss before he took charge of Bayern Munich for three years. Recently, in a conversation with ESPN, Guardiola dropped a major update on his future after Manchester City. “After my contract with City, I’m going to stop. I’m sure. I don’t know if I’m going to retire, but I’m going to take a break,” he said.

With his statement getting misjudged by the media and the fans likewise, he further issued a clarification on Friday, saying that he won’t necessarily leave City at the end of his current contract.

“I didn’t say I’m leaving now or at the end of the season or the end of the contract. I said when I finish my time here, be it one, two, three, four, five years, I will take a break. I won’t retire but I will take a break. What I am saying is when I am finished here I will take a break,” he told Sky Sports.

Stint with Man City

Guardiola has been with the Blues for nine years now and has overseen their most successful period in history. His side has notably won six Premier League titles out of the last nine and the first Champions League, which was part of a Treble in 2022-23. The ongoing season hasn’t been promising for City as they failed to reach their previous heights and are currently third in the table rankings, after the Friday night encounter against Wolves.

While talking about the break, Guardiola also spoke about whether he wants to be remembered for his brilliant coaching career. “How I want to be remembered, I don’t know. I want people to remember me however they want. I don’t think we should ever live thinking about whether we’re going to be remembered,” the 54-year-old said.

“When we die, our families cry for two or three days, and then that’s it, you’re forgotten. In the careers of coaches, there are good and bad ones, the important thing is that the good ones are remembered for longer,” he added. However, City can still finish the season with silverware as they face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on 17 May.

Although unsure about retirement, Pep Guardiola is quite sure about going on a coaching break after his job concludes at Manchester City, where he has been for nine years.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
