Phil Salt hits ton as England thrash West Indies in 1st T20I

New Delhi: Phil Salt’s 54-ball century was the cornerstone of England’s eight-wicket win over West Indies in their opening T20I match of a five-game series at Kensington Oval.

On Saturday, Salt struck his third T20I ton as England chased down 183-run target with 19 balls remaining after a superb unbeaten 103, studded with nine boundaries and six sixes in Bridgetown.

Salt hit West Indies bowler Shamar Joseph for 24 runs to lift England to 52-0 in the fourth over, setting the tone after which they cantered home, reaching 183-2 in the 17th over.

The 21-year-old has now scored all of his three T2OI tons against the West Indies, having been born and raised in Barbados before migrating to England at the age of 12.

“I enjoy batting here — I’ve grown up on these surfaces. It’s probably the place I’m happiest,” Salt said after the match.
