New Delhi: Haryana Steelers on Sunday were crowned as the champions of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) 2024. The Jaideep Dahiya-led team defeated Patna Pirates by a convincing margin of 32-23 in the PKL season 11 final played at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune.
The match looked in control till the first half before both teams were seen in a neck-and-neck competition. Though Haryana led for the most part of the final, Patna threatened to snatch the lead once at least in their quest to claim their fourth PKL title. The final 10 minutes were dominated by Haryana, leaving no room for the Patna Pirates to edge anywhere closer to their lead. Slow defence, bonus steal and raider sacrifice, pouncing on opposition raider in a pack, quick raids were some strategies adopted by Haryana to lift their maiden title.
Shivam Patare, who has played a pivotal role for the Haryana franchise in the raiding department, doubled up his role by shouldering the responsibility to pick gusty tackles, starting with a super tackle on Ayan Lohchab. He finished the contest with nine points, involving five tackle points and four touch points, outsmarting the ever-shining Mohammadreza Shadloui, who bagged seven points (five in tackle and two in raid).
Vinay was the most successful raider for the Steelers in the match with six raid points while Rahul Sethpal added three tackle points to maul Patna Pirates raiders on the mat.
For Patna Pirates, Devank managed to pick just five raid points, but wasn’t at his absolute best. His partner Ayan couldn’t decode the sturdy defence of the Steelers and returned with just three raid points from 11 raids. The only player who was up to the standards was defender Gurdeep Sangwan, who made six successful tackles.

Devank finished as the most successful raider of the PKL 11 with 301 raid points in 25 PKL matches. Ayan Lohchab finished the season with 184 raid points at the fifth spot.
