New Delhi: Punjab Kings (PBKS) rode on a scintillating knock from skipper Shreyas Iyer and an exceptional spell from Arshdeep Singh to beat the Gujarat Titans (GT) by 11 runs in yet another run-fest in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Tuesday. Punjab Kings opened their account in the new season under their new captain with a comfortable victory at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Despite having posted a massive total of 243 runs, Punjab Kings were left in a spot of bother when GT batters Sherfane Rutherford and Jos Buttler were going strong in the middle. However, some excellent death bowling from their pacers Arshdeep and Vijaykumar Vyshak helped PBKS turn the game in their favour and seal a close win.
With the Gujarat Titans needing 62 off the last 24 balls, Vyshak bowled a brilliant 17th over, conceding only 5 runs against an in-form Rutherford and a set Buttler to leave his teammates with 57 runs to defend off the last 18 deliveries. Marco Jansen conceded 12 off the 18th over and got the important wicket of Jos Buttler before Vyshak gave away 18 runs in the penultimate over.
Arshdeep had no qualms about defending 27 off the last over as he managed to get Rahul Tewatia run out on the very first ball before dismissing Rutherford to clinch the game for Punjab Kings by conceding only 15. The GT batters produced a valiant fight but couldn’t do enough to get their team over the line in the hefty 244-run chase.
