Vienna: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in Moscow for two days, landed in Vienna on the evening of June 9 for a one-day visit to Austria.
Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg welcomed PM Modi at the airport and later, he attended a dinner hosted by the Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
PM Modi First Indian Prime Minister To Visit Austria In 41 Years
PM Modi’s visit to Austria is not only monumental because of the potential discussions to strengthen bilateral ties but is also a very historic visit.
The last time an Indian Prime Minister visited Austria was 41 years ago in 1983 and it was Indira Gandhi; after her, PM Modi is the first Indian PM to go to Austria.
Welcoming PM Modi, the Austrian Foreign Minister posted, “A warm welcome to Indian PM Narendra Modi on his historic visit to Austria, marking 75 years of diplomatic relations. The partnership between our nations is based on a joint commitment to global security, stability and prosperity.”
Welcome Dinner, Greetings By Indian Diaspora – Grand Welcome For PM Modi
After being welcomed by the Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg at the airport, Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the dinner which was hosted by Karl Nehammer, the Austrian Chancellor.
At the dinner, the Indian PM was greeted by the Indian community who was very excited to meet him and also clicked selfies with him.

In a post on X, PM Modi said while sharing some really good pictures of him and Nehammer, “Thank you, Chancellor @karlnehammer, for the warm welcome. I look forward to our discussions tomorrow as well. Our nations will continue working together to further global good.”

PM Modi’s Austria visit comes after his two-day Russia visit during which he co-chaired the Russia-India Summit with President Vladimir Putin and also held important restricted and delegated talks. PM Modi was also honoured with the Russia’s Highest Civilian Honour, Order of St Andrew the Apostle by President Putin.
