New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi on Sunday interacted with Paralympic medallists Manish Narwal and Rubina Francis following success in Paris. Mr. Modi congratulated both the para shooters for their tremendous achievements and was involved into a moment of split.
Manish Narwal claimed a silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 with a total score of 234.9 from 24 shots. He became the fourth Indian to account for two medals at different Paralympics edition, joining the likes of Devendra Jhajharia, Mariyappan Thangavelu and Avani Lekhara. The Haryana-based shooter won gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics in the men’s 50m air pistol SH1 event three years ago.
In the women’s 10m air pistol SH1 class, Rubina Francis took the bronze medal after accumulating 211.1 points from a total of 22 shots. The shooter from Madhya Pradesh made a massive improvement after finishing seventh in the same event in Tokyo in 2021.
PM Modi congratulated both the medallists for winning medals through a telephonic conversation. He said that they made the country proud with their performances. He wished double-Paralympic gold medallist Avani Lekhara, though she couldn’t join the telephonic conversation because of her participation in the mixed 10m air rifle prone (SH1) event in the ongoing Summer Games.
Both Rubina and Manish have come a long way, enduring hardships, and grinding in the shooting range. It was the passion and determination for the duo that pushed them to the podium at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre.
