New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded ‘son of Bihar’ Vaibhav Suryavanshi for his batting exploits for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. 14-year-old batting sensation Suryavanshi has become the cynosure of all eyes after his stunning century against the Gujarat Titans (GT).

Suryavanshi announced himself on the big stage in style with a sensational knock of 101 runs off just 38 balls. The 14-year-old prodigy from Bihar’s Samstipur lit up the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur with his sensational strokes as he took GT’s world-class bowling attack to the cleaners. Suryavanshi hammered his maiden IPL ton off just 35 balls, smashing the record for the fastest ton by an Indian in the IPL.

Speaking in his video address during the inauguration of the Khelo India Youth Games in Bihar, PM Modi hailed young Suryavnashi’s hard work, which helped him play fearlessly against the best of the world in the IPL.

“I have seen in the IPL, the son of Bihar, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s spectacular performance. At such a young age, Vaibhav has set such a great record. There is a lot of hard work behind Vaibhav’s performance,” Modi said in his address.

PM Modi also insisted on the importance of match practice, which he felt played a key role in helping the 14-year-old adapt in his debut IPL season for the Rajasthan Royals and do well for the team. He urged the upcoming athletes to put in the hard yards and practice as much as possible to be ready for the challenges ahead.

“To bring his talent to the forefront, he has played many matches at different levels. The more you play, the more you will shine. Competing in matches and competitions as much as possible is very important. The NDA government has always given it the highest priority in its policies,” PM Modi added.

Growth of sports culture will increase India’s soft power: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also stated that developing a robust sporting culture in the country will help grow India’s soft power and that his government is dedicated towards modernising the sporting infrastructure in the country.

“Sports is now making its mark as a culture in Bihar. And the more Indian sports culture grows, the more India’s soft power will also grow,” said PM Modi.

The seventh edition of the Khelo India Youth Games will get underway in Bihar on May 04. The competition will be held across five cities in the state, with athletes from across the country taking part in multiple sporting disciplines. New Delhi will also co-host a few events, with the Games concluding on May 15.

PM Modi stressed that the government is focused towards developing the sporting ecosystem in the country, keeping in mind India’s bid to host the 2036 Olympics. India has officially submitted the Letter of Intent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the 20236 Games and is expected to receive competition from the likes of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and South Korea, among others.
