Gukesh becomes youngest chess champ
The eighteen-year-old talented chess player from Chennai showcased remarkable class to defeat China’s Ding Liren in Singapore and claim the world chess championship title. At 18, he became the youngest chess world champion, surpassing the previous record held by Russian great Garry Kasparov, who bagged the crown in 1985 at 22.
Gukesh became only the second Indian after the great Viswanathan Anand to claim the world title. Anand had won the crown five times in his illustrious career.
