New Delhi: Ruturaj Gaikwad had a sensational T20I series against Zimbabwe, scoring 133 runs in his three innings. He was the fourth-highest leading run-getter in the series. Despite performing well, he has been dropped from the upcoming white-ball tour against Sri Lanka.
His absence from the ODIs is understandable as senior players are back in the team but fans and experts were surprised after he was not part of the T20I series. He is the third-highest-ranked Indian batter in the ICC T20I rankings. He smashed one fifty and scored 49 runs in the second and third match.
Gaikwad has scored 633 runs at a strike of 143.53 in 23 T20I matches, including a century and four half-centuries. Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as the new captain of T20Is and Rohit Sharma will continue to lead in the ODI format.
Shubman Gill named as the vice-captain of the white-ball tour to Sri Lanka and star batter Virat Kohli is also back in the team for the three-match ODI series. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja rested from the series and both players will be back for the home Test series against Bangladesh in September.
