New Delhi: The Premier League’s third matchday delivered a captivating doubleheader as Crystal Palace travelled to London as they faced Chelsea in search of ending their London derbies this season whereas Manchester United were hosting Liverpool at home. The doubleheader showcased the league’s growing intensity and unpredictability. In London, Crystal Palace and Chelsea played out a thrilling draw at Stamford Bridge, while Newcastle United continued their impressive start with a convincing victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

In the London derby, Crystal Palace sought to end their recent struggles against their city rivals, while Chelsea aimed to build on their positive start to the season. The match was a tightly contested affair, with both teams creating numerous chances and showcasing their attacking prowess. Cole Palmer’s lone effort went just wide of Dean Henderson’s goal from a distance heralding the start of the hosts’ attack. Midway through the first half, the England international set up Nicolas Jackson for the game’s first goal for the Blues in the 25th minute.
In the second half, Chelsea looked the stronger of the two sides at the break and duly lead 1-0 against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge. However, their lead was short-lived as Eberechi Eze scored a magnificent goal from the edge of the penalty area just minutes after the half.
For Enzo Maresca’s team, Jackson had the best opportunity of the second half, but at the beginning of extra time, he could only find the side netting. Ultimately, the two sides were unable to break the deadlock, resulting in a 1-1 draw that left both teams with mixed emotions.

Newcastle United’s pursuit of Premier League glory continued unabated. They made one change from their last Premier League match as Harvey Barnes came in for Jacob Murphy. Their clash with Tottenham Hotspur was billed as a potential title clash, and the Magpies delivered a performance that justified their lofty ambitions. After taking Son Heung-min’s possession, Alexander Isak’s thunderous strike went just wide of the crossbar, giving the hosts a sparkling early lead.
Harvey Barnes gave the Magpies their third warning a few minutes later in the 37th minute with a swerving attempt that went just past Guglielmo Vicario’s lefthand post. Their visitors thought they had broken the deadlock through Cristian Romero’s header from a Pedro Porro cross but was promptly ruled offside. Newcastle lead Tottenham at the break by a scoreline of 1-0.
In the second half after being set up by Lloyd Kelly, Barnes finished deftly into the top corner to give Eddie Howe’s team the lead. But Dan Burn’s attempt at a clearance turned Porro’s cross into his own net allowing the Lilywhites to tie the score.
Howe replaced Sean Longstaff in midfield with Sandro Tonali, making his Premier League debut after 316 days away. Jacob Murphy staged a breakaway in the last moments of play, squaring the ball for Isak to roll into an empty net at the far post helping Newcastle restore their lead.
