Premier League 2024/25: Crystal Palace sink Manchester United, Tottenham get a crucial away win

New Delhi: The Premier League matchday 24 has been thrilling with every Saturday game producing a winner. It started with Nottingham Forest playing starting the weekend with a goal-fest win against Brighton.  Liverpool maintained their spot in the lead, now with a nine-point lead in the table. The amazing action continued on Sunday as three games took place with two of the games happening simultaneously.

Earlier in the evening Manchester United hosted Crystal Palace at Old Trafford with the hosts coming on the back of three consecutive victories across competitions. At the same time, Tottenham Hotspur were being hosted by Brentford with both sides coming to the gameweek with much at stake.

Manchester United 0-2 Crystal Palace

Both sides were goalless at Old Trafford in the break, though both sides had taken quite a few shots at the goal. Jean-Phillippe Mateta was going to break the deadlock during his duel with Andre Onana. Ismail Sarr also came close to scoring but faltered a chance created by Tyrick Mitchell. For United Kobbie Mainoo came the closest to give United an early lead but failed yet again to score in the first half itself.

It was a free kick from Everechi Eze that came useful for Palace to go ahead as Maxence Lacroix tried to head only to hit the crossbar only for Mateta to tap in the goal. From here the Eagles looked threatening as they kept looking for their second goal of the evening. It was again Mateta in the 89th minute who scored from a Daniel Munoz pass, that was judged to perfection, into an empty net, taking home a 2-0 win at the Theatre of Dreams.

Brentford 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Brentford had started on a stronger foot, coming close to scoring quite a few. However, it was Tottenham Hotspur who drew first blood, scoring through an own when Pedro Porro tried to tap in a corner which hit Vitaly Janelt’s back and broke the deadlock. The score went into the break 1-0. Brentford should have been on level at the break having a 1.14 xG while Spurs were mostly struggling at the final third.

Coming back, while Tottenham were cautious not to give away their lead and break their streak of four consecutive defeats in the competition, Brentford kept getting on the offensive. However, the Lillywhites despite not having their first-choice defenders due to injuries, managed to keep Brentford searching for a goal. Tottenham finally doubled their efforts when Heung-Min Son played a brilliant through ball that landed on Pape Sarr’s feet who had no trouble finding the back of the net.

Crystal Palace manage to find the back of the net twice in the second half at the Old Trafford as Tottenham break their four game losing streak with a win.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
