New Delhi: Matchday 23 of the Premier League continued tonight as the last few fixtures involved Tottenham and Leicester squaring off while another two London clubs, Brentford and Crystal Palace were up against each other. Turbulent times at Spurs as they needed a win against the relegation threatened Foxes, who were themselves defeated in their last seven Premier League games. However, Ange Postecoglou’s side weren’t in any better spot either as they are also surprisingly pretty close to the relegation zone. Such have been the season for once a top four contender and let’s just say that it didn’t quite workout tonight at their home ground either.
As for the other fixture, it was a battle between 11th and 12th, with the Bees starting the game on top of Palace. A win was very much needed for both the sides who have their targets set on a top half finish. However, after a few controversies in the game itself, the result saw Brentford coming on top and beating their London rivals.

It was an end-to-end contest at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in the first half where both the sides had their chances. Just 10 minutes into the game, Kristiansen snatched the ball away from Pedro Porro and ran into the last third. He brought the ball back for Jordan Ayew, but Davies blocked his first attempt from the edge of the area, and the rebound bounced up into Kinsky’s gloves marking Leicester’s first real chance of the game. Soon after at the other end, Sarr tested the Leicester keeper Stolarczyk.
Spurs were awarded a free kick which is originally handled by the visitors when Stolarczyk punched it out, but only as far as Son. The keeper was caught off guard as the South Korean crossed straight for the back post, rattling the crossbar. In the 33rd minute of the game, the first goal was scored by the hosts when Richarlison beat Faes to slip in and score from close range as Porro played a wonderful ball in towards the far post. This gave Spurs a 1-0 advantage before the second half.
The second half started with a bang, much to the disappointment of the hosts and Ange Postecoglou, when Leicester managed to level the scoring with their legendary forward, Jamie Vardy finding the net in the 46th minute. De Cordova-Reid entered the area after Soumare played him, and he hit a good low ball across the face. It broke for Vardy, who hammered it home from yards out to tie the score at 1-1 after Kinsky was unable to collect the ball despite his dive.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium erupted with boos as De Cordova-Reid took possession of the ball and freeing up El Khannouuss. With enough of time to push forward, the Moroccan curled the ball around Kinsky and Davies from 20 yards out to hit the bottom corner and score it 2-1. Despite the hosts’ constant efforts of getting the leveller, they just couldn’t get the job done as it remained 2-1, with a huge win for Leicester. Serious troubles lie ahead of Tottenham as this might be time up for Ange Postecoglou at the London club.

Another London rivalry had tremendous amount of drama in the second half, as Brentford managed to win it 2-1 against Crystal Palace. There wasn’t much attacking action in the first half, but the second forty-five minutes were explosive. There were barely ny chances created by either of the two sides, which suggested that the game might just end deadlocked. However, fast forward to the second half, It was very unfortunate for Eze that he did not score to put Palace ahead in the 57th minute. After bouncing off Van den Berg, his free-kick hit the foot of the post and remained out as the visitors were survived thare.
A moment of madness, where Brentford were awarded a penalty, which was eventually missed by their star man Bryan Mbuemo as he hit the post. However, The Palace fans’ celebrations were cut short when the VAR was looking at this for potential encroachment. The Bees were allowed a re-take which was converted by Mbuemo this time. Brentford managed to seal the deal with a second goal scored by Kevin Schade, that put them 2-0 up, in a comfortable spot.
Despite a late strike, just five minutes after Schade’s goal, the teenage debutant Romain Esse kicked off his scoring charts just moments after he was brought onto the pitch by Palace. However, despite that goal from Esse, Palace lost 2-1 and now sit 12th, right behind their opponents Brentford at 11th.
