Premier League 2024/25: Tottenham destroys West Ham with 4-1 victory at home

New Delhi: Tottenham cruised to a 4-1 victory over West Ham, climbing to sixth place in the Premier League. It was a game where the second-half dominance from Spurs proved too much for West Ham to handle, despite a strong start from the visitors.

West Ham began the match brightly, with Mohammed Kudus opening the scoring in the 18th minute. Jarrod Bowen kept the attack alive and found Kudus at the far post, who tapped it in against the run of play. Tottenham responded with pressure and equalised when Dejan Kulusevski’s shot bounced in after hitting both posts in the 36th minute.

The second half was where Spurs truly came alive. Yves Bissouma’s calm finish after a clever pass from Son Heung-min gave Tottenham the lead. Soon after, Son’s shot deflected off West Ham defender Jean-Clair Todibo, and the unfortunate Alphonse Areola turned it into his own net, making it 3-1.

Son then sealed the win, racing through to fire past Areola for Tottenham’s fourth goal. West Ham’s day went from bad to worse when Kudus was sent off after a VAR check for violent conduct in the final minutes.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou praised his team’s second-half performance, calling it “outstanding,” while West Ham’s Julen Lopetegui admitted Spurs deserved the win.

Tottenham are now full of confidence as they prepare for their next clash, while West Ham will have to regroup without Kudus, who will miss upcoming games due to suspension.
Tottenham’s win comes at a crucial time as they push for a top-four spot, with their attack showing fluidity and their defence looking more composed. However, their habit of conceding first continues to be a concern, as they’ve now allowed the opening goal in several home matches this season. Despite that, they managed to turn the tide yet again, demonstrating their resilience under Ange Postecoglou.

For West Ham, it was a tough outing. After Kudus put them ahead, they struggled to cope with Tottenham’s second-half intensity. Their defence, which had looked solid in the first half, began to crumble under pressure, leading to mistakes that Spurs capitalised on. Kudus’ red card further compounded their problems, leaving Julen Lopetegui with plenty to ponder ahead of their next fixtures.

This win gives Tottenham momentum as they gear up for a tricky trip to Crystal Palace, while West Ham will need to regroup quickly before facing Manchester United at home.
