Premier League: Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran scripts history with goal against Man City

New Delhi: Aston Villa’s 21-year-old Colombian striker, Jhon Duran has started the season on fire and continued his brilliant start with a goal against Manchester City today. The Cityzens travelled to Villa Park in search of a win that would put an end to their horrid form this season but instead were met with a fiery Aston Villa side. Stefan Ortega made two huge saves, one from Jhon Duran and one from Pau Torres within the first five minutes to keep his side level.

While the visitors started dominating the ball following those saves, their fortunes didn’t change with nothing coming out of their possession and the home side took advantage of that. Aston Villa midfielder, Youri Tielemans received the ball from his goalkeeper and started a counter attack that stunned Manchester City. He played an excellent through ball, splitting the Manchester City defense and making it’s way to Morgan Rogers, who squared it off to Duran beside him to make it 1-0.

With his goal against the defending champions, Jhon Duran has created Premier League history in his short career in the English top flight. With the seven goals that he’s scored this season, combined with his five strikes from last season, Duran has now scored a goal every 82 minutes in the league, making him the one with the best minutes to goals record in the history of the Premier League.

Judging by his skills and maturity on the field, it’s easy to forget that the Colombian international is only 21 years of age and still has a long way to go in his career. However, despite his young age, he’s already competing with two of the best forwards that Manchester City have had in their history, Sergio Aguero and Erling Haaland. Aguero is a certified Premier League legend and Haaland holds all the capabilities to become one in the future and Duran has already left them behind in one aspect.

When it comes to the minutes to goals ratio, the 21-year-old is above both these strikers who sit just behind him in the list. Haaland has the next best record with him averaging a goal every 89 minutes and Aguero is just behind him with a goal every 107 minutes. Duran has started this season with a bang and has scored his seven goals in less than 500 minutes of Premier League action but has already bettered his tally from last season, both in terms of goals scored and minutes played. Linked with a host of clubs in the summer, Duran’s decision to stay put is proving to be fruitful for both the club and the striker himself.
