New Delhi: Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt’s prolific forward Omar Marmoush, as Pep Guardiola looks to bolster his squad during a challenging campaign. According to reports from reputed publication BBC, the Premier League champions have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with the Bundesliga side, although the transfer is yet to be officially completed.

Marmoush, a 25-year-old Egypt international, has been in sensational form this season, scoring 15 goals in the Bundesliga and has provided 10 assists for his side. He is seen as the ideal replacement for Julian Alvarez, who departed Manchester City in the summer and offers a different alternative to Erling Haaland. The move comes at a time when City find themselves in an unusual position, languishing in sixth place in the Premier League table.

Despite a strong start to the season, a poor run of form before Christmas has left Guardiola’s side struggling to match their usual lofty standards. The team’s scoring woes have been a particular concern, with fewer goals scored than mid-table sides like Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur. Marmoush’s arrival is seen as a vital step toward addressing this issue. While the fee has not been disclosed, Frankfurt valued the player at €80 million and a deal would’ve been agreed somewhere close to that figure, making a significant profit for the German club.

Marmoush joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer from Wolfsburg in 2023 and has quickly established himself as one of the top strikers in Germany. His performances have caught the attention of several elite clubs, but it’s Manchester City who have moved decisively to secure his services. The Egyptian forward is expected to sit out Frankfurt’s upcoming clash against Borussia Dortmund due to the advanced nature of negotiations.

Manchester City might not be done in this transfer window

The pursuit of Omar Marmoush is just one part of Manchester City’s active January transfer window, as Guardiola looks to reshape his squad and address key areas of concern. City have already committed over £60m this month on defensive reinforcements, securing the imminent arrivals of two highly-rated young centre-backs: 18-year-old Vitor Reis from Palmeiras and 20-year-old Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens.

Vitor Reis is reportedly flying to Manchester to complete his medical, while Khusanov’s £33.6m deal with Lens has been agreed, although the club has yet to officially confirm the signing. Both players are expected to provide long-term solutions to City’s defensive line, with Guardiola keen to inject fresh talent into the squad. While these deals are on the verge of completion, Manchester City might not yet be done in the window, reports BBC.

In addition to these deals, City have shown interest in Juventus full back Andrea Cambiaso. The Italian defender, who has made 25 appearances this season and contributed two goals and two assists, is seen as a potential addition to bolster the flanks. However, City sources have downplayed the likelihood of completing the transfer this month, indicating that talks are not as advanced as initially reported.

The Italian is a capable fullback who has the ability to play on both sides of the flank and would offer a viable option for the club should they decide to make a move for him. The club have allowed Kyle Walker to leave in this transfer window and would need to replace the Englishman. Given Cambiaso’s importance to Juventus’ system, a deal in this window might be difficult but the club can make a move to get him in the summe.r

Eintracht Frankfurt star Omar Marmoush is set to join Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City following an agreement between the two clubs for an undisclosed fee with the German club valuing him at €80 million.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
