Premier League: Mohamed Salah equals Thierry Henry’s goalscoring record in the league

New Delhi: Whether or not he stays at the club beyond this season, whether or not he is given a new contract, one thing is certain and that is the fact that Mohamed Salah is a bona fide Premier League and Liverpool legend. The Egyptian International has been a goal machine for Liverpool ever since his arrival at the club in 2017 and in all his time in Merseyside, not once did he look like slowing down.

His opponents tonight, Manchester United, are one of the teams that the 32-year-old loves scoring against. In his 15 appearances for Liverpool against the Red Devils, Salah has scored a mind-boggling 13 goals and assisted another six. With the score level at 1-1, Salah stepped up to take a spot kick against United and converted from the spot to give his side the lead with about 20 minutes left to play.

While Salah’s goal didn’t win the game for his side as Amad Diallo levelled for United about 10 minutes later, it did help him climb up the all-time goalscoring charts in Premier League history. His goal against Manchester United tonight was the 175th Premier League goal for Salah, which puts him level on the Premier League goalscoring list with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. Salah is now seventh in the all time Premier League goal scorers list.

An incredible individual season for Mohamed Salah

31 – Mo Salah has 18 goals and 13 assists in 19 Premier League games this season, the most goal involvements ever by a player in their first 19 appearances of a campaign in the competition, overtaking Luis Suárez’s 30 in 2013-14 (23 goals, 7 assists). Throne. pic.twitter.com/QpNVAnD7DN

The Liverpool number 11 has been having an incredible individual season for the club and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down this seasons. With the kind of form he’s in this season, he could end the season in fourth position, currently held by former Manchester United striker Andy Cole with 187 goals. In just 19 Premier League games this season, Salah has scored 18 goals and provided 13 assists for the Reds.

For context, he has already levelled his goal tally from last season and has exceeded his assists from last season as well. In 32 appearances last season, Salah had managed 18 goals and 10 assists for Liverpool, excellent numbers on their own but he is dwarfing those numbers this campaign. With 31 goal involvements in just 19 Premier League games this season he has broken yet another record.

Before Salah’s goal tonight, former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez had held the record for most number of goal involvements in 19 Premier League games i.e. the halfway point of the league season. Suarez had managed 30 goal contributions in 19 games during the 2013/14 season as he scored 23 and assisted seven but Salah has now overtaken the legendary Uruguayan striker in this aspect as well.

Liverpool’s Egyptian King Mohamed Salah added another milestone to his cap as his goal from the spot against Manchester United brings him level with the Arsenal legend.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
