New Delhi: Matchday 26 has come to an end with thrilling results coming from the Sunday games with Newcastle sneaking a 4-3 against Nottingham Forest. It was the 18th time that Newcastle had won from a losing point this season. The Magpies have now climbed to fifth place in the Premier League and are sitting just one place behind Manchester City. It was a disappointing outing for Nottingham who have now failed to take a point in their last two Premier League outings and have lost three away games in a row.

A win for Manchester City would have given them 47 points which due to the goal difference would have put them in third place, ahead of Nottingham Forest. However, at the Etihad Stadium, City were disappointing as they failed to make a comeback from table leader Liverpool’s early strike. For the Reds, it was Mohamed Salah who broke the deadlock in the 14th minute before Dominik Szoboszlai doubled the effort.

Salah has now scored a goal and made an assist in both the fixtures against Manchester City giving 2-0 wins on both occasions to Arne Slot. The win for Liverpool means they sit 11 points clear of Arsenal who suffered a setback 1-0 loss against West Ham United at home. Contenders for the Premier League title, the Gunners were at one point breathing down Liverpool’s neck but they now have a big gap to fill. For Man City, it is the first time since 2020 that they are sitting 20 points behind from the top.

A win for Newcastle in the midweek could see them climb into the Champions League spot, with Bournemouth and Chelsea still very much in contention for a top-four finish.

The weekend also saw Aston Villa climb to the eighth spot with their win over Chelsea. Tottenham’s 4-1 win against Ipswich Town has ensured that the side is now in the 12th place of the table, climbing from the 15th place in the table. Manchester United continued to disappoint as a draw at the weekend means they are now 15th in the table.
