Premier League points table: Liverpool extend lead, Nottingham Forest move up to 2nd

New Delhi: Matchday 19 of the Premier League season is halfway done as Sunday’s game came to a close following Liverpool’s huge win over West Ham. Arne Slot’s side played the final fixture of the day and completely blew away the London side in their own backyard, beating them 5-0. Mohamed Salah, was once again at the center of things and stole the show with two assists and goal as Liverpool extended their lead at the top.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s Nottingham Forest were the other big movers of the day as they beat Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park to finish the day in second place. Forest have come a long way since finishing 17th in the league last season as they’re currently the second best placed team in the table, albeit momentarily. Chris Wood once again starred in Forest’s win tonight as he scored one and assisted the other against the Toffees.

Meanwhile, Tottenham were denied three points at the death by a fierce Jorgen Strand Larsen strike after they had been leading Wolves 2-1 for the entire second half. The Norwegian striker struck a powerful show from a tight angle in the 87th minute to make the score 2-2 for Wolves to maintain their unbeaten run under Vitor Pereira and ensure that Spurs finished 2024, outside the top half of the Premier League table.

It wasn’t a great day for all the London clubs in action as Fulham were denied a win right at the death as well in their game against Bournemouth. The West London side took the lead in the 71st minute through another Harry Wilson header, his third this season, and looked to have won the game, only for Bournemouth’s Dango Outtara to snatch a point from the jaws of defeat to ensure that the Cherries remain in the top six.
