New Delhi: Manchester City didn’t do a lot of business in the summer in terms of their incomings. The club let go of a few big names on their books as the likes of Julian Alvarez, Joao Cancelo and Yan Couto, were all let go by Pep Guardiola’s side but only made two additions to their squad. In came returning captain and modern-day Manchester City legend Ilkay Gundogan and Brazilian winger Savinho, who impressed on loan at Girona last season.
However, since joining the Manchester based side, Savinho had struggled to establish himself in the Premier League. He started the season well with a dazzling display on debut against Chelsea in the first game of the season and even grabbed a couple of assists on his home debut against Ipswich Town but flattered to deceive on most occasions. He got himself another assist in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal in September but that was the last time he got a goal involvement in the league for the defending champions.

After the Euphoria of his dazzling dribbling ability, that reminded fans of former City fan favourite Riyad Mahrez, ended, fans started questioning his end product as Savinho had only mustered three assists in 15 league appearances. He finally put that to an end after starring in Manchester City’s win over Leicester City tonight, as he scored his first goal for the club to give his side the lead in the 21st minute.
Phil Foden had unleashed a shot from distance which the Leicester keeper could only parry inside the box and Savinho was the first to react to the loose ball, smashing it into the empty net from a tight angle. Before his goal tonight, the young Brazilian had gone on to take 27 shots at goal without scoring, which was the most by any player that hasn’t scored in this season, ultimately breaking his duck with his 28th shot of the season.

Savinho’s goal had given Manchester City the lead in the first half but they still needed another goal that would assure them of victory as Leicester City were constantly attacking the City goal. Leicester created a lot of chances but couldn’t put those away and Manchester City made them pay in the second half. Academy graduate James McAteer picked up the ball on the right flank and produced some good footwork to start an attack for his club.
The ball was switched to the other flank by Kevin De Bruyne, who found Savinho on the left and the Brazilian floated a cross in the box which was met by an unmarked Erling Haaland who thumped it into the Leicester goal to make it 2-0 for his club. Both Haaland and Savinho broke their duck today as Haaland scored only his second goal in eight games and Savinho, who had gone 11 games without a goal contribution, got both a goal and an assist on the same night.
This win also marked only the second win for Manchester City since their 1-0 win over Southampton towards the end of October. The Cityzens hadn’t won a game since their 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the beginning of December and had been winless in the last five games that they’d played in all competitions. It was also the club’s first away win since their 2-1 win over Wolves on 20th October.
Manchester City signed the Brazilian winger in the summer from feeder club ES Troyes AC after he shone last season at Girona but had struggled since signing for the Cityzens. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
