New Delhi: The IPL 2024 saw plenty of players making their mark in the tournament and a few of them got their maiden India call-up for five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe.
Riyan Parag, Dhurv Jurel and Abhishek Sharma have already made their T20I debut for India in the first match of the series. Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Nitish Reddy also received his maiden call-up for the national team but he was ruled out of the series due to an injury.
Shivam Dube replaced the 21-year-old all-rounder in the team but he is hopeful for getting another opportunity in the future. He said that there is a chance that he’ll get to play at no.7 or no.6 and is preparing for the role Hardik Pandya is playing.
“There’s a chance I’ll get to play at no. 7 or no. 6, most likely a Hardik Pandya role. I’m flexible to bat wherever I’m asked to, but as of now I’m preparing for the role that Hardik Pandya is playing,” said Reddy in an interaction with NDTV.
Nitish scored 303 runs at a strike rate of 142 and also picked up three wickets for SRH in the IPL 2024. He also said that he is ready to open in the near future but he won’t be getting the opportunity to bat in the top order because of the experienced player.
“If you ask me to open, I’ll open as well. In the near future, I won’t be getting the chance at the top order because there are more experienced players. I have to adapt to whatever role I’ll get, and I’ve been prepared to adapt this way by domestic cricket” Nitish said.
‘There will be opportunities for youngsters’: Nitish Reddy
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20I cricket and Nitish feels after their retirement youngsters will get more opportunities.
“I’m happy that there is a progression for youngsters who are performing well. After Rohit bhai, Virat bhai and Jaddu bhai’s retirement, there will be opportunities for youngsters. We need to grab them” said Reddy.
The young IPL star is getting ready for the all-rounder in Team India and is preparing for Hardik Pandya’s role in the team. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
