President-Elect Trump Nominates Former Attorney General Matthew Whitaker as US Ambassador to NATO

Washington: Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States (US), has nominated Matthew Whitaker, a former Attorney General, as the US ambassador to NATO, also called North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. Trump, while naming Whitaker as the ambassador to NATO, described him as a “strong warrior and loyal Patriot” who will advance and defend US interests, strengthen relationships with NATO allies, and stand firm against threats to peace and stability.

Notably, Whitaker served as Acting Attorney General in Trump’s first administration and was a critic of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible ties between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia. Meanwhile, the fresh move is seen as a significant development in Trump’s second administration, and Whitaker’s nomination is expected to have an impact on US foreign policy and national security.
