New Delhi, India: A 13-second video clip of outgoing US President Joe Biden has gone viral. The video, captured on Sunday after a press conference in Manaus, Brazil, shows Biden seemingly wandering off into the Amazon rainforest instead of following the designated trail after delivering remarks on his administration’s efforts in clean energy infrastructure and conservation.
In the footage, Biden, wearing sunglasses and a loose-fitting outdoor shirt, waves and turns away from a platform where he had just spoken, heading in the direction of the forest. The seemingly odd departure has sparked an avalanche of reactions on X (formerly Twitter), with many users left puzzled, amused, or even concerned about where the president was heading.
Pop culture news account @PopBase shared the clip with the caption: “Joe Biden becomes the first sitting US President to visit the Amazon Rainforest,” garnering over 26.1 million views.
Netizens react to the Biden’s viral video
“Where is he going?” asked one user, while another joked, “He’s really doing all the side quests now that he can retire,” accompanied by two sobbing emojis. A third user added, “Bruh did he just wave bye and disappear into the jungle?” and a fourth speculated, “This man is so mysterious. Where could he be heading off to now?”
However, a closer look at the entire press conference video reveals that Biden did not “wander off” into the jungle, as some social media users initially suggested. Instead, the president appears to have taken an alternative route, which was not immediately clear from the short clip.
Biden’s critics, including some supporters of former President Donald Trump, quickly jumped on the moment. Conservative social media accounts, such as @EndWokeness, shared the video, questioning, “Did the President of the United States just wander off into the Amazon?”
One such video, shared by Trump’s campaign account @RNCResearch in June, showed Biden leaving a group of G7 leaders during a skydiving display, only to be later tapped on the shoulder by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who gently guided him back to the group for a photo op.
