Princess of Wales Kate Middleton set to grace Wimbledon men’s final on Sunday

New Delhi: Princess of Wales Kate Middleton to all set to grace the Wimbledon men’s final on Sunday in what will be a rare public appearance after her cancer diagnosis. The final of the Grand Slam will be played between defending champion Carlos Alcaraz and Serbian giant Novak Djokovic.

On Saturday, Kensington Palace confirmed the same that Kate, wife of heir to the throne Prince William, will be a spectator in the Royal Box on Centre Court to watch the game between two tennis sensations. While Alcaraz defeated Daniil Medvedev in the first semi-final of the event on Friday, Djokovic outplayed Italian Lorenzo Musetti in three sets late in the day to book a spot in the final.

Kate patron of All England Club since 2016

Kate, who has been the patron of the All England Club since 2016, will not attend the women’s final on Saturday Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejcikova. Wimbledon organizers confirmed that the winner’s trophy will instead be handed out by Deborah Jevans, the chair of the All England Club.

Being the patron, the princess is bestowed with fulfilling the ceremonial duties that include handing out the winner’s trophy after each men’s and women’s singles final. Kate, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier in March this year, made one one public appearance since then and that was to attend the birthday parade for King Charles III last month.

She had released a statement before attending that event saying that she was making good progress but still experienced some bad days as she continued her treatment. The treatment for the princess is not over yet as she still continues to fight bravely with the deadly disease. Meanwhile, Prince Williams has been a regular at Wimbledon finals but will not be at Sunday’s match but this year, he will instead attend the football final between England and Spain at the European Championship in Germany. William is the president of the English Football Association.
