New Delhi: India all-rounder Shardul Thakur reportedly ply his trade for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. At the mega-auction, Thakur’s bid left everyone in shock as he couldn’t find any buyer and was set to miss the upcoming IPL season. But a report claims that he will be signing an IPL contract very soon.
As per Times of India (TOI), Thakur will be joining Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as an injury replacement for Mohsin Khan and has been with the side since their preparations for the 2025 season began. Although the Rishabh Pant-led squad is yet to make an announcement, the report further reads that Thakur has been informed of the decision and will travel to Visakhapatnam for LSG’s opener against Delhi Capitals.
Why replacing Mohsin?
Some time back, Mohsin picked up an ACL injury which barred his participation in the game for the last three months. He even had a calf strain when he started bowling in the LSG nets. It is understood that their core group of seamers is still recovering at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE), therefore, the management was forced to take the call of Shardul’s inclusion.
LSG also has the services of Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, and Mayank Yadav, but all are yet to join the team. The LSG camp is yet to give details of injuries sustained by their seamers. Their mentor Zaheer Khan insisted that the team would follow a dynamic approach this season.
Now that their core seamers are absent, Shardul’s inclusion makes him the leader of the pace attack as he is the most experienced bowler in the set-up. Meanwhile, Shamar Joseph will be their only overseas seamer.
LSG has reportedly brought in Shardul Thakur as an injury replacement for Mohsin Khan. The Indian all-rounder notably went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
