New Delhi: The second women’s T20I match between India and South Africa has been called off due to the heavy rain at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, July 7. The rain helped visitors to maintain the 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series and now the Women in Blue have to win the last T20I to avoid home series defeat. Harmanpreet and Co. have won the ODI series by 3-0 and a one-off Test match against the Proteas Women.
The start of the match was delayed because of the heavy rain and it came back a few times during South Africa’s innings. Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits provided South Africa a great start after India opted to bowl first. Pooja Vastrakar dismissed Wolvaardt (22) in the fifth over and provided the Women in Blue their first breakthrough.
Brits continued her brilliant form and smashed her second half-century of the series, scoring 52 runs off 39 balls. She was dismissed by Deepti in the 14th over.
Anneke Bosch scored 40 runs off 32 balls and Annerie Dercksen also played a crucial cameo as South Africa posted 177 runs in the 20 overs. Rain came back during the mid-innings break and didn’t stop. The overs began to lose by 9.16 pm, the rain got heavier and the match was called off.
India’s squad for Asia Cup 2024
The BCCI announced India’s squad for the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 on Saturday. The tournament was scheduled to start on July 19 in Sri Lanka. Harmanpreet and Co. placed in Group A along with Pakistan, Nepal and UAE. Team India will open their campaign against arch-rival Pakistan on July 19. After that, They will face UAE on July 21 and Nepal on July 23.
